Crafted with quiet precision on the hills of Nepal.
Born from an experiment in our tea maker’s experiment, this golden-tipped black tea revealed something extraordinary. The moment it was brewed, its aroma bloomed, brisk, honeyed, and subtly spiced. Each cup feels alive: a bright first sip, a hint of wild herbs, and a gentle warmth that lingers long after the cup is empty.
When we sent this tea to the lab, it came back with something unexpected — high readings for compounds linked to gut health. We later learned that Timur (Zanthoxylum armatum) is known in traditional Nepali medicine for soothing the stomach and aiding digestion. Modern studies have shown that its natural compounds may relax intestinal muscles and calm inflammation.
Only our most experienced pluckers harvest these leaves, and only from this single Timur-surrounded plot. With the garden sitting around 2,100 meters above sea level, among the highest tea fields in the world — Timur Gold captures the meeting of craft, curiosity, and nature’s own alchemy.
Why It’s Called Timur Gold?
On a small patch of high-mountain tea garden, the tea bushes grow side by side with Nepal’s beloved Timur plants (Sichuan Pepper), the fragrant pepper that leaves a gentle citrusy tingle on the tongue.
When the wind drifts through these shrubs, it carries the Timur’s aroma into the tea fields, infusing the young leaves with its wild, citrus-spice character. That’s how this tea earned its name - Timur Gold.
Meet Nikesh: The Heart Behind the Leaves
Nikesh was 16 the first time he stepped into a tea field. The job? Pruning. It sounds rigorous for a 16 year old , but even then he understood the art of pruning is important to better grow and develop the tea plants. Since then he’s done it all - pruning, strict field labor, factory floors, and now an accomplished tea maker. We have carried several teas from Nikesh. Some of the most loved being Prathama the first flush white tea and Rose Label Reserve. “ The world of tea is fascinating to me. Nothing has been more fun than making my own tea. It takes a lot of emotional commitment to make a tea and I welcome each season as a personal challenge and opportunity.
