Producer

Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center Pvt. Ltd. (KTERC) is the first certified organic tea garden in Nepal that was established in 1984. Mr. Deepak Prakash Banskota; Father of our founder Nishchal Banskota, took this initiative to rid his community out of poverty. Read more about his story here. Till this day, it remains a model social enterprise that runs on cooperative infrastructure and is truly focused on the triple bottom line of people and planet before profit.

Production Process

The creation of our organic hibiscus tea begins with the careful handpicking of vibrant hibiscus blossoms from our certified organic farms, ensuring that only the finest flowers are selected. Once harvested, the flowers undergo a drying and withering process to remove excess moisture, concentrating the natural flavors and beneficial compounds in the petals. After drying, the hibiscus is finely chopped or shredded to increase surface area, allowing for a more efficient extraction of its essential properties during brewing.

Depending on the desired flavor profile, the hibiscus flowers may go through a controlled oxidation process, enhancing the signature tart and tangy notes of hibiscus tea. Finally, the processed hibiscus is meticulously packaged to preserve its bright color and refreshing taste, ensuring our customers always enjoy tea at its peak freshness and quality.

Origin

Hibiscus tea boasts a fascinating and elaborate history. This vibrant red infusion traces its roots back to ancient Egypt, where pharaohs prized it for its tart flavor and potential health benefits. Known as Hibiscus Sabdariffa or Roselle, the hibiscus flower eventually made its way to the Caribbean, where its popularity spread globally. Today, hibiscus tea is enjoyed in regions from Latin America to West Africa, appreciated for its bold, aromatic flavor. Rich in antioxidants, it is also celebrated for its potential health benefits, such as supporting healthy blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.

Go back to the old version

The old version of this was amazing and I made iced tea with it constantly. The new whole-flower version is harder to brew and doesn't provide nearly as much flavor to the tea.
