Producer

Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center Pvt. Ltd. (KTERC) is the first certified organic tea garden in Nepal that was established in 1984. Mr. Deepak Prakash Banskota; Father of our founder Nishchal Banskota, took this initiative to rid his community out of poverty. Read more about his story here. Till this day, it remains a model social enterprise that runs on cooperative infrastructure and is truly focused on the triple bottom line of people and planet before profit.

Production Process

Kathmandu Cosmos is a black tea infused with organic herbs and spices, crafted from our renowned Golden Tips black teas, Kumari Gold and Kanchanjangha Noir. This blend features warming organic ingredients such as cinnamon leaf, ginger, lemongrass, black cardamom, and orange peel, creating a robust and flavorful spice tea ideal for chilly days.

Our Golden Tips teas, along with the herbs and spices, are cultivated on our family farm, Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center (KTERC), where local farmers meticulously handcraft and process each ingredient. The carefully dried herbs are blended with our premium black tea to create Kathmandu Cosmos—a rich, spiced tea perfect for savoring on cold days.

Origin

Our tea estate thrives in the eastern region of Nepal, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha, which is the third-highest mountain in the world. Located precisely near the western borders of Darjeeling, India and north of the Ilam, the most famous tea growing region in Nepal, our small village enjoys the best of both worlds. Situated at an altitude of 1300-1800 meters (4,200 - 6000 feet), the area enjoys pristine Himalayan climatic conditions to produce highly unique and aromatic teas.

Who is Kathmandu Cosmos for?

This tea is ideal for those who have strong opinions about masala chai. While it retains the essence of traditional chai, its unique floral and citrus notes set it apart from any other chai. Fans of Teavana blends, like Maharaja Chai, will particularly enjoy this distinctive and refreshing blend.

Who is it dedicated to?

The inspiration for Kathmandu Cosmos came from a desire to improve the traditional masala chai, which is often overpowered by heavy spices and uses lower-quality tea. We wanted to change that by using our finest teas to create a chai that's truly unique. Kathmandu Cosmos highlights our culinary creativity, blending our top teas with citrus ingredients to enhance, not overshadow, the tea’s natural flavors. This blend was crafted by founder Nishchal and South African wine sommelier Anton, using organic black teas from Nirananda Acharya. The result? A perfectly balanced, award-winning chai that took home the 2020 AVPA award in Paris!

Very easy to shop

The app was clear and attractive with correct information to guide you through the process. The packaging is terrific with those that have the woven basket and I’ve had the tea before so I expect excellence once again.
