How to Host a Virtual Tea Party

Looking for a fun activity to do with friends while staying safe?? Hosting a virtual tea party can be a great way to connect with friends who you maybe haven’t seen in a while. The best part is that you can have a virtual tea party while everyone is safely in their own homes.

Order a Tea Sampler

What’s better than trying one or two teas? Trying them all. Our tea sampler collection allows you and your friends to try every one of the teas we offer from the Kanchanjangha Tea Estate. Be sure that everyone attending the party orders the same tea sampler so you can all have the same experience. It’s like having an in-home wine tasting without the nasty hangover.

Make Classic Tea Party Food

You can’t have a tea party without snacks. Afternoon tea originated in England in the 1800’s when Brits would normally eat a large breakfast and a late dinner. Because of the large gap in between main meals, it became custom to have afternoon tea and treats. Some classic treats you can make that usually accompany a tea party are finger sandwiches, pastries such as scones, and a sponge cake such as a Victoria Sandwich. If you’re not a master baker, see what the grocery store has to offer!

Heat Water & Prep Tea

Because you’ll all want to try each tea that comes in the tea sampler, it might be cumbersome to drink a full cup for 11 different teas. Having a large pot of water heated is a great way to save time during the prepping process. Because all of the teas in our sampler are loose leaves, it’s easy to divy up the teas into smaller portions for sampling. 

For sampling, there should be 1 tsp of loose leaf tea per 4 oz of water. That is about half of the standard cup of tea, and should provide you enough tea to fully taste each cup without filling you up. At this point, it may be easier (and more fun) to join a video chat with your friends so you can make sure everyone is getting the measurements correct.

*Note: An important component of drinking loose leaf tea is having a steeper to catch the leaves. Our glass tea steeper mug has a strainer built in, so you can drink your tea without sipping tea leaves.  

Enjoy Your Tea & Snacks!

Once water is hot, start with the first tea and make sure everyone is drinking the same type one at a time. Have everyone try to guess the different flavors that make up each tea. You could even have everyone rate each tea on a scale of 1 to 10 to find out which tea was everyone’s favorite; or maybe even take a note out of the 1800 Brit’s book and not so literally “spill the tea” by sharing juicy gossip over your afternoon tea.

Although this year has been hard for many, as a community we’ve come together in such creative ways. Hosting a virtual tea party is just another one of those creative ways to make the most out of our current situation.
