Inspired by the renowned oolongs of Taiwan and China, he embarked on a 14-year quest to replicate these exquisite teas in the unique Nepalese climate. But his dedication went beyond mere replication. For the past 7-8 years, his singular focus has been on perfecting the art of oolong. During peak season, he devotes a staggering 16-18 hours a day to meticulously crafting these exceptional teas.

Man Kumar was a true innovator. He was one of the first people in Nepal to ever make oolong tea, starting a whole new tradition. His unwavering commitment and artistry are evident in every cup of oolong tea he has ever crafted.

Mai Gaba Oolong distinguishes itself from other Nepalese teas with its unique journey. Unlike black or green varieties, mature leaves bursting with flavor are hand-selected. These leaves undergo a gentle drying process, losing only 15% moisture compared to the typical 40-50% on other variants of teas. This helps preserve a base of floral and aromatic notes.

The heart of the process lies in rhythmic shaking and resting within a specialized machine. For three cycles, the leaves alternate between 2-3 hours of shaking and 8-hour rest periods. This slow oxidation allows for a gradual color change to a beautiful reddish hue while retaining the delicate floral character. The entire process is closely monitored throughout. The process is halted at the peak of flavor, capturing the perfect balance between floral aroma and complex notes. Finally, the leaves undergo fixing and rolling, similar to any other teas, to complete their transformation into the exceptional Mai Gaba Oolong.
