Producer

Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center Pvt. Ltd. (KTERC) is the first certified organic tea garden in Nepal that was established in 1984. Mr. Deepak Prakash Baskota; Father of our founder Nishchal Banskota, took this initiative to rid his community out of poverty. Read more about his story here. Till this day, it remains a model social enterprise that runs on cooperative infrastructure and is truly focussed on the triple bottom line of people and planet before profit.

Production Process

This tea defies the typical white tea expectations and follows a distinct, refined process. Harvested by hand during the First and Second Flush, only the tender one leaf and a bud are plucked. Unlike most white teas, which are barely processed, this tea undergoes a unique transformation, earning it the nickname "Silvery Oolong."

After a natural withering period, the leaves soften and are gently rolled for 8-10 minutes under low to medium pressure. This brief rolling allows the tea leaves to release their essential oils, filling the room with a fresh, floral aroma. The magic happens here, capturing the fragrance at just the right moment before it's sealed in through drying. It’s this subtle deviation in process that creates a tea so rich and aromatic that some even place it in its own category, somewhere between white and oolong.

Origin

Our tea estate thrives in the eastern region of Nepal, nestled in the foothills of Mt. Kanchanjangha, which is the third-highest mountain in the world. Located precisely near the western borders of Darjeeling, India and north of the Illam, the most famous tea growing region in Nepal, our small village enjoys the best of both worlds. Situated at an altitude of 1300-1800 meters (4,200 - 6000 feet), the area enjoys pristine Himalayan climatic conditions to produce highly unique and aromatic teas.

Who is White Prakash for?

This white tea is a must-try for fans of Bai Mu Dan or lighter Taiwanese Oolongs, offering a delightful complexity that will captivate anyone looking to explore lighter teas. Its nuanced flavors and intriguing layers have made it a favorite among our customers, who often describe it as one of the most satisfying teas they've ever experienced. It's no surprise that this exceptional brew claimed the Bronze Medal at the Global Tea Championship 2019 and has earned numerous accolades at tea festivals worldwide.

Who is it dedicated to?

The name “Prakash”, meaning "bright light" in Nepali, holds special significance for us. It is also the middle name of our founder's father, Mr. Deepak Prakash Banskota, the visionary behind Kanchenjunga Tea Estate and Research Center in eastern Nepal. Mr. Banskota has been a beacon of leadership, pioneering the organic and cooperative movements in Nepal, and serving the nation as the State Minister for Home Affairs. We take great pride in naming our most delicate and premium tea after him, honoring his legacy of enlightenment and progress.
