Product

Is your tea organic certified?

Yes and no! Every single item in our collection is 100% organic. Two of the four tea estates that we work with is certified organic. Read more about Nepal’s first certified organic tea estate here

But the remaining two farms in Nepal, despite following all the protocols to ensure a 100% organic products, do not have the certification.  Achieving an organic certification is quite an expensive affair for all of them. That is the reason why we share 1% of our total revenue with the farmers so that we can help them get their already organic teas certified. and help them reach their products to a global conscious consumers.

Is your tea gluten-free?

Yes, all of our Nepali loose leaf teas are gluten free.

Where does your tea come from?

Till 2022, our teas come from four smallholder farms in Nepal. Their names are Kanchanjangha Tea Estate and Research Center, Baraha Tea Estate, La Mandala Tea Estate and Jasbirey Tea Processing Center. We are always looking to partner with diverse talent whose work make Nepali teas more interesting than it already is.

Read more about the amazing talents behind our teas and blends.

Do Nepali teas contain caffeine?

Yes. Nepali teas like all teas come from Camellia Sinensis which produces caffeine naturally. The levels of caffeine in your cup mostly depends on the kind of tea and how you’re preparing it.

How should I store my tea?

All the Nepal Tea Collective’s tea collections are 100% organic and have never been washed in the processing stage. The tea leaves are harvested from the farms and directly prepared for drying and withering stages. So every single leaf is delicate and prone to soak in the aromas and flavors it is exposed to.

Storing these delicate Nepali tea leaves is key to getting the ultimate flavors in every single steep.

In order to keep Nepali tea fresh, you should protect tea leaves from exposure to air, heat, light, and moisture. This means storing tea in an airtight container and keeping it in a cool, dark place. You should avoid storing tea near any sources of heat, like a stove or a sunny window.

We highly recommend our latest addition of tin box accessories for this purpose.

Where should I buy my tea from you?

Our teas are available for purchase on our website nepalteacollective.com, our amazon store, our social media - facebook and instagram.

Why should I buy my tea from you?

Great question! We know you have plenty of options to choose from for tea and it means a lot to us that you’re browsing with us. With our exclusive Nepali tea collection, we are trying to build a space for premium Nepali talents and products. Nepal’s tea world is relatively new but because the country offers exquisite microclimates and talented passionate folks carrying the entire orthodox tea industry on their shoulders. We personally source and select all the tea that we carry, which means that we visit every farm and work directly with every teamaker on our menu–without any middleman.

Do you sell tea wholesale or in bulk?

Yes, we do. Check out our wholesale page here.

What brewing methods do you recommend?

Every pack of tea is different despite coming from the same Camellia Sinensis. Although the perfect brewing method is very personal and all about exploration and introspection of knowing oneself, we still have specific brewing suggestions available in every packaging.

Do you have caffeine-free / herbal options?

Yes! Like all loose leaf teas because they come from Camellia Sinensis contain caffeine. We do have delicious healthy caffeine-free options available here.

Nepal

Which continent is Nepal in?

Asia.

Where is Nepal located exactly?

Nepal is a country in Asia; South Asia to be precise. It lies along the southern slopes of the Himalayan mountain ranges. It is a landlocked country located between India to the east, south, and west and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north.

What is Nepali  Tea?

Nepali tea is a beverage made from the leaves of tea plants grown in Nepal. All of Nepal Tea Collective’s collection so far consists solely of teas and ingredients grown in Nepal.

The teas from Nepal are distinctive in appearance, aroma, and taste. Nepali orthodox teas are extremely rare credit to their relatively smaller production quantities. But the same factor makes the teas from Nepal super exquisite and rare. Every year oncoming of new flushes promises delicious teas that are irresistible and irreplaceable to their other alternates.

The smaller tea industry, unlike its giant neighbors’ means that teas from Nepal are less well known. Nepal Tea Collective since its inception has been working hard to build a foundational market for Nepali teas worldwide.

My favorite tea is now gone. Why do you run out of certain teas?

Our reserve teas are delicious because they are made with a lot of care. For most of our offerings, we try to ensure there is a steady supply at the same quality level. There are times when that is difficult to achieve though, either due to weather patterns or even a teamaker’s retirement, for example.

You can always take our tea quiz or send us an email with your flavor preferences, and we can help you choose your next favorite.

What are your recommended places to visit in Nepal?

Nepal is so beautiful that this recommendation list can include every single nook and cranny of the country and we’d still find more.

But if you like us are obsessed with Nepali teas or looking to get lost into the wonders of tea, then we cannot recommend ILAM enough!

Better yet, don’t just randomly show up to Ilam but choose an immersive tour with us. Take a back seat with your itineraries and let us show you around the gems of the tea capital of Nepal.

Is it Nepali or Nepalese?

The people of Nepal call themselves Nepali. But the term Nepalese is equally popular and used interchangeably by people born in Nepal all over the world. Most of our team members use the term Nepali but we don’t hate the term Nepalese either.

What kind of tea do they drink in Nepal?

Nepal is a small but a diverse country. The tea preference depends on which region you’re traveling to. In Ilam, the tea capital of Nepal, loose-leaf tea is popular and abundantly available, especially if you’re meeting up with our tea producers. But the most beloved tea in Nepal is a delightful cup of chiya- milk tea in its myriad of variations.
